Project: I am co-worker in various studies about programming and development of the metabolic syndrome. Events occurring in early life may predispose to adult diseases such as obesity, atherosclerosis, insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes mellitus. My roll in these projects is to assist and run the laboratory work.
To estimate insulin sensitivity we use the euglucemic hyperinsulinemic clamp with 2-Deoxy-D-[1-3H] glucose, for later ion exchange chromatography. Body composition is determined by DEXA/MR. We also use different analytical methods like ELISA to measure compounds in serum to determine various blood status. For the analyses of adipose tissue a computerized method is used to provide reliable data on adipocyte size distribution. Another software is used to calculate images of immune histological stained atherosclerotic plaque.
